Dr. Muhammad Yunus (born June 28, 1940) is a social entrepreneur, philanthropist and Nobel Prize winner. He has served as the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh since 8 August 2024.  He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for founding the Grameen Bank and promoting the concept of microcredit and microfinance.   He received the US Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 and He has been awarded several national and international honors, including the Congressional Gold Medal in 2010. ] He is one of seven people to have received the Nobel Peace Prize, the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the United States Congressional Gold Medal. 


In 2012, he became Acharya (Education) at Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland, a position he held until 2018.   Prior to that, he was a professor of economics at the University of Chittagong.   He has published several books on his work in finance. He is a founding board member of Rural America and the Rural Foundation, which supports microfinance.   He also served on the board of directors of the United Nations Foundation from 1998 to 2021.  In 2022, he co-founded the eSports for Development movement with the Global Esports Federation. had partnered. 


On 5 August 2024, the Non-Cooperation Movement led to the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,  and on 6 August 2024, President Mohammad Sahabuddin appointed President Yunus to serve as the head of the interim government of Bangladesh based on student demands after dissolving the National Assembly.  Political His acquittal on appeal the following day of charges of labor code violations seen as intentional facilitated his return to the country and his appointment.   He took over as Chief Adviser to the Interim Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on 8 August 2024.
